Join us for an urban mission experience in Minneapolis and Saint Paul.
Connect with organizations as they seek to be the hands and feet of Christ. Encounter people as you listen to their stories. Grow in your understanding of how God has uniquely created you and your team.
Mission Minneapolis is an organization that provides short-term mission opportunities for students, with a passion to create environments where students and sponsors can experience the presence of God as they serve others. MM has grown out of the heart of The Contender Project, a non-profit organization (contenderproject.org) designed to help students become more confident in their relationship with God and in who God has created them to be. The project challenges students to use their strengths and talents to become engaged in the mission of Christ. One of the four streams of the Contender Project is the powerful opportunity to challenge students to new steps of faith as they participate in impact events. With a long history of creating events for students in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, we provide a unique service to youth groups across the country, helping them have meaningful, life-changing mission experiences.
Dr. Steve Gahagen, Director, has a passion to help people thrive in their life and relationship with God. Dr. Gahagen planted Prairie Oak Community Church in Andover, MN, a suburb of Minneapolis, in 1990. From that church, three others have emerged. Throughout the years, Dr. Gahagen has been involved in youth ministry, creating opportunities for student to develop as Christian leaders. He developed a high school internship project, Servant Leadership Boot Camps, Cross-Training Teams and Urban Retreats. He has also developed the Contender Project, which provides one-on-one strengths-based faith coaching to students. He has earned a Master of Divinity degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary and doctoral degree in Strengths-Based Leadership from Bethel Seminary in collaboration with Gallup University.
Melissa Durand has a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Winona State. She is on staff at Prairie Oak Community Church as a Community Outreach Pastor. She has the pleasure of working to develop connections with different individuals and groups in the community, and helping to foster opportunities to partner together. She enjoys seeing people grow in love and compassion for others by providing opportunities for them to share their unique strengths and talents.
With a population of almost 3.5 million, the Twin Cities provide a diverse environment for students to experience a culture different from their own. Both urban and suburban events add to their experience of the diverse Kingdom of God. Find out more about this metropolitan area.
Our approach is organized, yet flexible. When opportunities arise, we can change the itinerary to provide the best experience possible for your group. We will customize your trip to fit the current needs of the community and the needs of your group.
A unique component of our experience is strengths-based team training. In our experience, beginning a trip with strength-training helps students understand how God can best use them and those around them. The teams work better together when they understand each other's strengths.
We believe that a mission trip is not a final destination, but the beginning of a new journey. We provide questions and activities that leaders can use when they get home to help students understand their experience and translate it into their daily lives.
Short-term mission trips serve an important purpose in spiritual growth - getting students out of their normal cultural environment and providing optimal moments for God to speak. They can be steps to another level of faith.
